About me: I grew up in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, with my first career being in resort management. I began considering the ministry after being affirmed by the members in my church, along with the call of the Holy Spirit. In 2003, I moved with my family to Seward, Nebraska to get my Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management. From there I enrolled in Concordia Seminary, St. Louis to acquire my Master of Divinity. Ascension extended a call to me as Vicar (internship) in 2007, then called me as Associate Pastor in 2008, and finally in 2011 called me as Pastor. I enjoy time with my wife, Michele and two daughters, Morgan and Alexa. I am an avid Denver Broncos fan. I also love the beach, which was not available while growing up in Colorado!

My role at Ascension: As the called Pastor, my main concern is Word and Sacrament ministry. That is, teaching and preaching the Word and its message of the forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ, along with administering the Lord’s Supper and Baptizing people. This work is in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) as Jesus gives us the task of sharing Him with all nations. In addition, it is my goal to assist the Holy Spirit in building up disciples and leaders who will also go and share Jesus Christ. We have a great group of called and hired staff with a passion to share Jesus, and our teamwork is essential in carrying out that mission at Ascension. Although staff is important, our members do the majority of the Lord’s work, as they are moved by the Holy Spirit to labor within the Body of Christ.

About me: Though I spent some of my childhood in California and New Mexico, I have been an Oregonian for more than 15 years. Out of high school I originally went to college to become a firefighter but somewhere along the line God let me know that He had different plans for me. I graduated from Concordia University in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in Christian education and then went to Seattle for a yearlong internship where upon completion, I received my certification as a Director of Christian Education in the LCMS church.

Shortly thereafter, Ascension Lutheran Church extended a call for me to serve as their Director of Christian Ministry. Although I have only served at Ascension since July of 2011, I have been part of the church since I first came to Oregon in 1996. Soon after I started my call at Ascension, I went from being single to marrying my beautiful wife Janelle. I love to spend free time in the outdoors whether it be fishing, hunting, or camping.  I pretty much love all sports though I spent my college years competing in the throws for Track and field.

My role at Ascension: My role involves working in team ministry and supporting others to develop gifts that God has already given them to further His kingdom. I work with Pastor Jim in teaching confirmation and conducting chapels for our early childhood center. I focus much of my time working with staff and other leaders to create a variety of family and community faith formation opportunities.  Overall, I am here to help support and grow disciples of Jesus.

About Me: I was born and raised in Portland. After high school, I attended Linfield College in McMinnville Oregon where I received my Bachelor’s Degree with a double major in Psychology and Early Childhood Education. I have been teaching preschool children for 24 years – 17 of them at Ascension Early Childhood Education Center, (AECEC). I became Director of the center 10 years ago and continue to teach as well.  My husband and I have 2 grown children, a lovely daughter-in-law and 2 adorable granddaughters who are students in my preschool class. When I am not having sleepovers and hot chocolate parties with my granddaughters, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love to write, travel and decorate.

My Role At Ascension: As director of AECEC I work closely with the church staff and congregation in our mission and outreach to the families of our early childhood center. I am responsible for planning Christian based curriculum and activities for our childcare, preschool and kindergarten programs, as well as creating ways to connect our center and church  in our shared mission to “go and share Jesus Christ.”

About Me: I was born in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and spent to majority of my life in the mountain ski resort and ranching community. I left for good when Jim and I began our journey to begin full time ministry. I attended Ashford University and received my bachelor’s degree in organizational management and psychology in 2010. After moving to Portland I worked at Portland Lutheran School until June of 2013 when I left there to work at the Church. I have wanted to play a bigger role in the ministry and this is a unique opportunity to be involved in the many aspects of church work.

My Role At Ascension:  I am often the first face or voice people encounter when they contact the Church. It is my goal to show them the face of Christ. To be kind, helpful, and serve in a manner that would portray Him to the best of my ability. I coordinate and prepare for services, communicate with congregants, and ensure that all  the day to day operations of the church run smoothly.
